Besides moving to a wonderful new dance studio, nothing else will change; rates, class times, teachers and dances will all remain the same!!
In the next few weeks we'll be sending out plenty of reminders, but we don't have everyone's email. Please, help us out by letting all your friends know about our big move. We hope you'll join us on our journey!
Lindyfest Weekend Workshop

Lindyfest is Houston Swing Dance Society's 14th annual Lindy Hop workshop. Lindyfest is an intensive and fun lindy hop weekend workshop jammed packed with classes for all dance levels, soul sessions with living legends, hot performances and four endless nights of dancing. Lindyfest brings in hundreds of dancers from all across the globe to learn lindy hop from the masters and experience the excitement of Lindy Hop, all here in Houston.
Lindyfest dates are March 11-14th, 2010. Registration is open and currently only $159
Celebrate 10 years of the Aggie Swing Cats

Calling all Aggies, Old Ags, and all of the amazing friends we have made in between! The Texas Aggie Swing Cats are celebrating their 10 year anniversary on December 5, 2009 with a BIG BASH!! We will be starting out with a BYOPB (bring your own picnic basket) picnic on campus, then moving on to a 1940's themed swing dance and ending with an after party at a comfy coffee shop! And we are inviting all of you to celebrate it with us!
We have gone all out and are hosting a live band: THE GIANT CITY SEXTET!!
Plus we will have yummy food at the main dance!
So come out in your best vintage 1940's style outfits and join us for an amazing night of dancing!

4th Annual "Swing Central" Dance Contest in Austin

If you feel like taking a road trip to Austin, I would suggest trying to stop by the Jack and Jill contest at Central Market for good music and a lot of fun dancing! Shine up your dance shoes and get your hottest moves ready, it's time for the 4th Annual "Swing Central" Dance Contest in conjunction with Central Market. The winners of this jack & jill style contest will receive a CASH PRIZE!. No partner is necessary - just come out and get ready to dance. Partners will be randomly assigned. But there's not just money to be made. Come out and dance to the sounds of the Giant City and DJ Matt Jones.

Work off your extra Turkey-Day calories with us on Sunday, November 29th with a FREE beginner's lesson at 7pm and a FREE dance 8-10pm!Below is a list of items needed by the department to help bring a bit of fun to the kids:
- DVDs (they are ok with getting duplicate movies)
- Books (mainly young adult; ex. Twilight, Harry Potter, etc.)
- Arts and Crafts Supplies (specifically for individuals to use in theirs rooms)
- Games (ex. Monopoly, Sorry, any Jr. games are great)
- Video Games (Wii, gamecube, Xbox, PS2; they should be E for everyone)
- Puzzles ( keep it to 24 piece or 36 piece puzzles)
- Infant toys and mirrors
- Fisher price/Tonka
- Dolls and doll clothes
- Monetary donations will be accepted, please make checks to HSDS.
Lone Star Championships January 15-17th, 2009

Get ready for the Lone Star Championships, January 15th-17th, 2009, an unbeatable social/party/competition event weekend in Austin, TX. Lone Star is a high quality event where social dancing all night, inspired competitions and amazing workshops are the norm! They have well over 20 hours of social dancing planned and all of the competitions are social dance competitions - Jack and Jills and Strictlys. The judges don't want to see routines or a bunch of planned stuff... so no stress on your part, no need to prepare a routine, just come enjoy the weekend.
Don't miss out on the fantastic line-up with workshops by Nina Gilkenson, Carla Heiney, Laura Glaess, Nick Williams, Todd Yannacone, Mike Faltesek, and Mikey Pedroza!
Registration is only $99 until December 2nd! This is going to be a great event you won't want to miss!

FREE Outdoor Concert and Dance Opportunity with Old School Swing at Discovery Green

The latest word from Old School Swing: Everyone's invited to "Swing on by" our next big public performance at the outdoor stage at Discovery Green park in downtown Houston. We will be playing lively original and classic swing tunes in the attempt to have the most fun possible!
The area in front of the stage will be reserved for dancing and the call goes out to all swing dancers to attend this magnificent reunion.
We will have featured guests, including April Wheat on vocals, and Susana Collins of Lunatango Dance Productions on hand to show us how quality
dancing is done. There will be other special guest dancers as well so look out, dancers will be spotted!
New Balboa Classes

Move beyond your Balboa Basics. Come and learn cool moves and intricates steps, dance like Willie Desatoff, Hal Takier, and Maxie Dorf. Most importantly, learn to dance at beats above 200 without losing your breath.
Starting in November, there's a new place for Balboa lovers. Every Saturday, from 3-4pm at Kings Dance Center, $7 per class. For more info please contact Gloria at iluvbalboa@gmail.com.
