All HSDS classes are Sundays at The Melody Club. Click here to view our weekly class schedule. We offer lessons for beginner to advanced dancers. No partner necessary! Our weekly Sunday dance is 8:30-10:30pm following the lessons.
The October elective will be Charleston Variations taught by Leah Ekstom and Quang Nguyen, Sundays 5:30-6:30 in the back room at the Melody Club.
Harvest Moon Ball
Save the date, Saturday, October 20th, for Harvest Moon Ball! Houston's Harvest Moon Ball was created to honor the spirit of collaboration by bringing two dance groups together, HSDS and the Rice Social Dance Society, providing our members with a night out on the town dancing to a live swing band (a rare treat)! This year we're providing you with great live music from Third Coast Swing, performances, just-for-fun dance competitions and more! You may purchase your tickets online at HSDS or Sunday nights at the Melody Club.

Lindyfest is March 13-16th
Lindyfest is an amazing lindy hop weekend workshop jammed packed with classes for all dance levels, soul sessions with living legends, hot performances and four endless nights of dancing. Lindyfest brings in hundreds of dancers from all across the globe to learn lindy hop from the masters and experience the excitement of Lindy Hop, all here in Houston. Instructors confirmed for 2008 are: Frankie Manning, Chazz Young, Dawn Hampton, Sylvia Sykes, Jason Christodoulou, Steven Mitchell, Virginie Jensen, Peter Strom, Ramona Staffield, Max Pitruzzella, Annie Trudeau, Nina Gilkenson, Andy Reid, Manu Smith, Ria Debiasi and Naomi Uyama. Registration to open this Fall! Don't forget to save the date March 13-16th 2008!
Other Great Lindy Hop Events
The Lindy Project and Four on the Floor Workshop October 5-7th in Austin.
There will be ~12 hours of classes for all levels with a beginner track on Saturday and many upper level classes going on all weekend. Lindy hop in Gmail video!
Google recently ran a contest in order to build a collaborative video through Youtube for Gmail. The idea was to pass the Gmail logo (an M envelope) in a creative way through video. Ann Mony and Alain Wong submitted a video of themselves swinging out with the envelope, and guess what? They made it onto the final cut from over 1,100 clips form more than 65 countries, and they are even the thumbnail icon for the video! Check out Gmail: Behind the Scenes (Final Cut) here:
