September 1, 2011 HSDS Happenings!All HSDS classes are every Sunday at the Melody Club. Click here to view our weekly class schedule. We offer lessons for beginner to advanced dancers. No partner necessary! Our weekly Sunday dance is 8:30-10:30pm following the lessons and is open to everyone! NEW beginner's lindy hop series (Lindy 1a) starts the first Sunday of every month at 7:30pm!! Save the Date for Houston's Harvest Moon Ball Mark your calendars for Houston's Harvest Moon Ball a celebration to honor the spirit of dedicated dancers in Houston! This year's Harvest Moon Ball will be held October 22nd, 2011. Houston's Harvest Moon Ball is a collaboration of two dance groups HSDS and the Rice Social Dance Society. It's a night to wear your sharpest clothing and dance the night away with great live music, performances, just-for-fun dance competitions and more!
We're currently working on the band and will post information as it becomes available! Tickets will be $20. Beginner lesson will be provided at 7pm and the dance will be at 8pm-midnight. RSVP on our Facebook page. Hangar Dance November 12thThe CenTex Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is holding their annual 50's WW-II USO-styled hangar dance November 12th in San Marcos. The live music will be provided by Sentimental Journey, plus they'll have dance and costume contests, an antique picture booth, lots refreshments and a catered bar-b-q. Tickets are still available and they're expecting another large turnout. We hope you can join them on Veteran's Day weekend, the dinner beings Saturday at 6pm, with the dance to follow at 7:30. Come for both and enjoy the entire evening. Guys and Dolls This swing era musical will be the cat's meow at the Hobby Center this September 27th-Oct 9th. Guys and Dolls is about a group of gamblers, gangsters and gals in the seedy, after-hours underworld of the city that never sleeps. Featuring all new scenery and filled with hits like “Luck Be A Lady” and “Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat,” this show is one the whole family will enjoy – you can bet on it!Swing Out of Town!New Orleans, LA - New Orleans Swing Dance Festival and The Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, Sept 28-Oct 3rd. 2011, Dont' miss an exciting weekend of "no holds barred" lindy hop competitions. This event is full of great live music and exciting dancing.
 Austin, TX - Austin Lindy Exchange - October 18-20th, 2011. Austin is home to one of the best lindy exchanges in the world. Ever. We have a thriving dance scene with lindy hop, blues, balboa and shag. We have amazingly talented djs and even more talented musicians. We have a bunch of fun activities and sites to see. Austin, TX, Lonestar Championships - January 12-15th, 2012. Lone Star Championships is a competition weekend dedicated to social dancing with a party atmosphere. All of the contests are social dance competitions. No stress on your part, no need to prepare a routine, just come enjoy the weekend.
